Stratford Ramblers

Stratford Group Committee

Dianes’s Diary

Another year has flown by and here we are with the 2019 Programme and a new Chair, myself, Diane Smith. I have been a member of Ramblers for about 20 years, as a walker, walk leader and taking on various committee roles with another group before joining Stratford. Those who walk, know me as a regular walker and leader on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays. I am ably abetted by Aileen Hathaway, who has volunteered to be Vice Chair in my place, as well as continuing to deal with publicity. So I am thanking her straight away. Also a big thank you to Penny for being at the helm for 6 years and a big thank you as well to all members of the Committee and Officers for continuing in their roles and now supporting me.

Susan Bruce has decided to step down from the Committee after being a member for 12 years but she will continue to organise the Holiday and help with the Coach trips as well as maintaining her role as Sunday Walks Co-ordinator. So a big thank you to Susan as well.

Details of the new Committee can be found in the Box below

In other news, check out our new Stratford Ramblers website at www.StratfordRamblers.com or www.Ramblers.org.uk, which is now live courtesy of Mark Christley. Mark has taken over responsibility for both our website and for loading our walks details onto the Ramblers national website from Roger Prutton, who has performed this task for the last 13 years and we are extremely grateful to Roger for all his efforts on our behalf over all this time.

We should also soon be on Flickr, courtesy of Jill Christley, as a means of archiving the photos which members take on walks. Look for the link on our website. So please continue to send in your photos from your walks either to me or to Jill, which we can potentially use in the Newsletter or store for viewing on Flickr.

In May, we enjoyed a beautiful holiday in the High Sierra mountains in southern Spain and in October we were fortunate with some late summer sun at St Ives; both holidays being well supported.

We are already booked for a week in Portugal next May and we have a weekend at Selworthy in September (see Box on Page 6 for details), again with good numbers booking to go.

We welcomed quite a few new members in 2018, who have commented how welcoming and friendly we are. One or two have volunteered to lead a walk for us, so please support them.

Going forward, we are already looking at quite a full programme for 2019, with the Coach Walks planning well under way at various locations. The summer evening walks will also go ahead again.

The Skittles evening is to be held at a new location in Snitterfield and also not forgetting the Annual Lunch in February at the Henley-in-Arden Golf Club.
So, here’s hoping for a really good year for the Group. Keep walking!
