The delightful walk near Matlock brought our 2018 programme to a very enjoyable conclusion. Since then, we have taken advantage of the good autumn weather to recce as many of the 2019 walks as possible. Once again, we hope that the spread of locations, varied countryside and good walking environments will appeal to as many of you as possible.
We start in April, breaking new ground to walk along part of the Hertfordshire Way and Ver Valley Walk, past a working Watermill and Roman ruins into the ancient cathedral city of St Albans. In May we go west to Herefordshire. The longer walk will start at Knightwick and follow part of the Three Choirs Way before joining the Herefordshire Trail into Bromyard, whilst the shorter, gentler walk will approach the town downhill from the north.
The three summer walks will take us into Staffordshire to enjoy another stretch of the National Forest Way, followed by the Chiltern Hills at West Wycombe, where non-walkers can visit the Hellfire caves and/or Hughenden Manor, then in August we will walk in the tranquil Vale of Berkeley alongside the River Severn. Finally, we are planning to round-off the programme in the country parks and nature reserves of Robin Hood’s beautiful Sherwood Forest.
Rising costs have caught up with us again, necessitating a 50p increase to £13 per trip, but your good support keeps these increases to a minimum. Booking commences in January and payment is requested in March please, preferably using internet bank transfer. Prior payment is strongly encouraged. As in previous years the longer walk will be 9-10 miles and the shorter, easier walk 5-6 miles.
The travel arrangements will be the same too. Parking and pick-up from Bearley Village Hall at 8.30am and an expected return around 6.00pm.
